Excursions

One of the strong points of the Samaná Peninsula, a true exotic paradise, with abundant beaches, rivers, waterfalls, caverns... Immersed in an exuberant and almost virgin nature, where the tropical vegetation and the variety of colors will affect everyone. There are so many wonders to discover that there won’t be enough time to see it all. In this section you will find all the necessary information to plan your excursions.
The Beaches
First, the beaches, naturally. Almost all the tourists that visit come attracted by the beauty of the beaches... tropical, wild, long or short, hidden, of golden or white sand or rocks, full of coconut palms and exuberant vegetation, everyone will be able to find the beach of his/her dreams.

Humpback Whales
The humpback whales stay in the Samaná Bay for two months. The observation season starts January 15 until March 15. These mammals choose these waters to mate and reproduce. During this time they will not eat and will use up their grease reserves.

The Haitises
Located in the southern part of the Samaná Bay, the Los Haitises National Park is a vast area of rocky hills, mangrove swamps, rivers and small islands called “mogotes” (hillocks), classified and protected, where rich fauna lives: more than 100 different species of birds (of the 270 found in the country). El Limon Waterfall
Located in one of the three main hills that make up the Samaná Sierra, in the northern part of the peninsula, the Salto del El Limón (leap of the Lemon) with a height of 130 ft (40 mts) and moss covered walls; possesses great natural beauty and is one of the key excursions of the Samaná Peninsula.

Ecotopia Park
Located on the Las Terrenas-Sánchez highway, by Hoyo Cacao, with over 74 acres (30 hectares), Ecotopía is more than a wonderful nature reserve. It has over 1.000 species of “rare” trees, exotic, native, and indigenous plants, some hundreds of years old, tropical flowers, many types of orchids...
