Ermitaño Beach
Legend goes that at the end of the 18th century the peninsula was almost completely uninhabited and a French pirate, called Juan, native of Nantes, decided to flee his companions to whom he exceeded in cruelty, and take refuge in a corner of the peninsula. At the end of twenty-two years this hermit was discovered by one of his old companions. The place where Juan resided during this time was named in his honor, El Ermitaño (The Hermit).
The Ermitaño is composed of three beaches, each one even prettier than the other, is a true tropical paradise, still uncontaminated, and there is no construction nor “chiringuitos” (refreshment stands), and is surrounded by hills full of exuberant vegetation almost reaching the sea. The smallest, a precious cove with turquoise and deep waters, is called Punta Ermitaño (Hermit Point).
Currently the whole area is the object of a new real estate project, so we can imagine that it will change dramatically in a short time.
It is located near the town of El Limón. The access, at the moment, is only possible by boat from Las Terrenas or walking from Las Canas Beach (about 45 minutes). If you decide to walk it is advisable to take a guide.
