Las Galeras is found in the north-eastern side of the Samaná Peninsula, around 17 miles from Santa Bárbara, capital of the province. The highway ends here, at the beach, giving the impression of arriving to a refuge protected from all the noises of the world, to a place where peace is absolute.

Four houses hugging the palm trees, whitest sand, the fishermen boats scattered in the clear waters, the small key in the middle of the bay, the “chiringitos” where the freshest of fish are cooked, and a sea with all the tonalities of blue and green. Las Galeras has it all.

And perhaps also the few tourist that arrive to Las Galeras, who marvel at this spectacular bay, with the ocean illuminated by the golden rays of a sun that plays among the clouds.

There are no travel agencies in Las Galerias, no excursion companies; one has to arrange it on their own. The hotels, most of them family style or a bit larger, will help and advise you in everything you need for your vacation. At the same time, they will suggest excursions, by foot or horseback, diving in clear warm waters, and splendid journeys to nearby beaches. Surrounding Las Galeras are some of the “pearls” of the Samaná Peninsula: Playa Rincon, Playa Madama, Playa Frontón…

Without a doubt, this town is an invitation to tranquility, relaxation, to immerse in wild and intact nature. Little nocturnal life, calm people who seem to move slowly not to bother, no noise other than the wind blowing the leaves and the whisper of the sea…
