in the Samaná Peninsula

For short trips, the best way of transportation in the Samana Peninsula is the “motoconcho”, a taxi concho samanaservice using small and medium size motorcycles. The fare depends on the distance, area and time of day.  But normally it ranges from 20 to 40 RD pesos. This way of transportation is organized and usually found on the corners where there’s traffic.  The “conchos” (that’s what the drivers are called) wear a vest that identifies the service and the association to which they belong.  In Santa Barbara de Samana, the typical “motoconchos” have a small cart that can transport up to 4 passengers.

Las Terrenas, Santa Barbara de Samana, El Limon, Sanchez, and Las Galeras are interconnected by a bus service.  These are usually minibuses o pick-up trucks, to which everybody calls “guaguas”. It is a cheap way of transportation commonly used by the locals. Guaguas are not very comfortable and often are overloaded, but the trip can be a lot of fun. The departures are every half hour starting at 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.
